- Health CEC Dr. Gregory Ganda says already 20 individuals from the affected Singida and Ogenya beaches have been put on treatment.

Kisumu County Government department of health has now confirmed the outbreak of bilharzia within two beaches along Lake Victoria in the Nyando sub-county.
Health CEC Dr. Gregory Ganda says already 20 individuals from the affected Singida and Ogenya beaches have been put on treatment.
He says the department initiated medical investigations following complaints from villagers in the two areas who were passing blood in urine and stool, swollen abdomen, body weakness, and discomfort during the passage of urine.
Dr. Ganda says samples were taken from affected individuals for analysis and laboratory findings indicated traces of Schistosomiasis.
He notes that all the affected have now been put on treatment adding that an active case search for those who meet the case definition is also currently underway.
In a press statement, Dr. Ganda says community health workers have kicked off a door-to-door visit to households in search of members who could be having similar symptoms.
He has assured the public that the county has stocked adequate medication for schistosomiasis for those who will need treatment.
